What is Gentle Journey?
A Hamilton-based companion transport service for seniors and people with mobility needs. We drive you, help you, and if you'd like, stay with you.
Who can use Gentle Journey?
Anyone who'd like a safe, caring ride: seniors, people with disabilities, people recovering from surgery, and anyone who'd rather not drive.
How do I book?
Book in the Gentle Journey app (it opens in your web browser), or call 0800 456 730. Family members can book for you.
How much does it cost?
Driving is $3.30 per minute and companion time is $2.50 per minute, with a $22.50 minimum per trip. GST included. See the pricing guide for real examples.
How do I pay?
Pay in the car by EFTPOS or credit card (every vehicle carries a mobile EFTPOS machine), or pay in the app, by invoice for organisations, or with ride credit. You'll see your price before you confirm.
What areas do you cover?
Hamilton and the wider Waikato, including Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Huntly, Ngāruawāhia, Morrinsville, Matamata, Raglan, Tokoroa and Te Kūiti. See all areas.
How far ahead should I book?
Ideally 24 hours ahead for appointments, and earlier for regular trips such as dialysis. Same-day trips are often possible, so just call.
Can my family see where I am?
Yes. Family can follow your trip live and get updates when you're picked up and arrive.
Are your drivers vetted?
Yes. Every driver is NZ Police vetted, first-aid certified and holds a P endorsement. More about safety.
Can you take wheelchairs?
Yes. We have wheelchair hoist vehicles. Please choose the hoist option when booking ($12.50 per trip).
Can I be picked up from Waikato Hospital after discharge?
Yes. Book a provisional time and call us when you're ready. Hospital & discharge rides.
Is this an ambulance or medical transport?
No. We provide non-emergency companion transport. Our drivers are first-aid trained but aren't medical staff. In an emergency, call 111.
Can rest homes and clinics book for their residents?
Yes. Register your organisation to book and manage rides for all your clients in one place.
How do I cancel or change a booking?
In the app, or call 0800 456 730. Please give us as much notice as you can.
